Flowers, Decor, & More

There’s something comforting and joyous about giving flowers and plants to someone or even just keeping them for yourself.

For mother-daughter florist duo Shelly Elkins and Ashley Flock, flowers are great connectors.

“Flowers just connect us…it makes the giver feel good and the recipient feel good.”

This has been especially true during the coronavirus pandemic. Just as many businesses have had to shut their doors or find new ways of carrying on, Flowers, Decor, and More has found new ways of doing business. By incorporating a coffee bar into its business model, customers have continued to come. More than that, though, as a staple to the small Washington city of Colfax, Shelly says people are trying to support them any way they can.

“We’ve had several people order flowers just to support us.”

Ashley agrees with her mom about the importance of caring for plants and flowers. She says it’s the joy of sharing them that she enjoys.

“I have so many plants in my house…bringing that outdoor feel indoors is really what I love.”

After experiencing some challenging circumstances and also getting to build a real connection with their customers, Shelly recognizes the importance of plants in our everyday lives.

“We need to look at life differently and I think plants and flowers help us do that.”
