Eden & Vine

The paths of faith and connection with nature often intersect, especially in writing, so it just makes sense to bring the two together. Terrica Smith set out with a goal to create a publication that brought this meeting of ideas to life, fueled by her trust in God to lead her in the right direction.

Eden & Vine is a magazine that brings together photography, writing, and faith to showcase things from wellness to cultivating a beautiful garden.

“We would do this for free, like we would do this just because of the joy that's in it and because of the act of worship that it is.”

Since Eden & Vine was started in 2019, so all of the work done on it was at home. While Terrica and her family were luckily able to do work and ministry from home, it made balancing those things with their family life difficult.

“It was Grand Central Station and though it was full of a lot of life, it was also difficult because there weren't clear boundaries, especially for our kids.”

Terrica finds that in addition to balancing work and personal life, Eden & Vine being a religious publication often comes with some pushback. But, the team doesn’t let that discourage them.

“We just stand our ground and continue to show up every day. And God's faithful, he always comes through.”

Terrica believes that one of the best ways that she can connect with God is through gardening. Being able to get her hands in the soil and helping foster their growth and life reminds her of the act of creation, and she feels it brings her closer to God’s message.

“And how often did Jesus teach parables where he used the scattering of seed or he talked about faith being like a seed…If you start noticing and looking for it, it's everywhere.”
