Plant Norfolk

After working for fifteen years at the Newport News shipyard, Heather needed a change of pace. She noticed a booming popularity in houseplants during the pandemic and decided that it would be a great opportunity to open a plant shop in Norfolk.

Many people live in spaces with very limited outdoor gardening areas, so houseplants are a perfect solution.

“[It’s] a perfect opportunity to bring some new things to this area for people, to get into something that they, you know, maybe haven't gotten into before, have some growth, really be able to connect with the Earth.”

Heather wants plant parents of all kinds to be able to indulge in creating their own green spaces, so she tries to provide plants that even people with no green thumb can handle.

“I always want people to walk out with plants that they can feel successful with.”

Despite this, she knows that failure is always a possibility and has had many ups and downs with plants herself. She sees it as a learning experience.

“I don't think having a green thumb is something that you either have or you don't… it is something that you can cultivate and learn.”
