Sandy Luehrsen: Sculptor

Some artists like Sandy Luehrsen start their journeys young. She’s been doing art since she was nine and is still continuing her passion to this day.

“I've been told by other artists, and it's the highest praise they could give me, that they've not seen other art quite like mine.”

Moving to the desert when she was younger sparked a great fascination with plants through seeing how they thrived in the arid environment.

“As I get older, I have an increasing sense of wonder about the universe and just looking at the beauty of plants.”

This appreciation for the desert flora can be seen through Sandy’s sculptures. She doesn’t just mimic exactly what she sees out in nature, but rather crafts a unique image of plants mixed with things like geometric shapes to challenge peoples’ openness to the abstract.

“We live in boxes, and we need those, and they're comfortable. And so I think there's room for everything.”
