Blossm

Unfortunately, not everybody can be a plant person. As disappointing as it may be, there are many people who just don’t click with them. Brian Feretic found this out six years ago after trying to add some life to the workspace of his girlfriend at the time. She didn’t take to them, so he decided to start taking care of them.

“I found the whole process extremely rewarding, especially when a plant would shoot off a new leaf. It just felt really good.”

After discovering his love for plants, Brian was eager to spread the joy that he gets from them to others in his community. One day, he found himself exchanging one of the plants he had propagated with a neighbor, who let him pick one from her garden.

This gave him the idea to find an app for connecting people who wanted to swap plants like he had just done - but, there was no such app to be found. So, Brian took matters into his own hands, pitching the idea to his friend Nick to help him develop the app. Blossm was born.

“He seemed interested, but he was like, ‘What's up with this whole plant thing?’ Like, he seemed a little skeptical…what really did it for him is that his father sent him a New York Times article with the title, ‘The Houseplant Boom is Being Driven by Millennials.’”

Brian uses Blossm a lot himself to buy, sell, and swap plants. His favorite part of the app is how it’s allowed him to make new connections and build upon old ones.

“It's like cemented our friendship where we bond through plants.”
