Grant's Farm

Keeping a family business alive and thriving is hard work. It requires a person who’s both dedicated to their work and upholding that legacy. Lisa Fields is one of those hard workers, striving to keep Grant’s Farm going as long as she can.

“The one thing that I will do is I will keep this going. I have to keep my parents name going and what they have done and what they have built.”

Lisa’s father fell in love with the plants he’d see in the gardens of Miami, and he became inspired to start a flowering tree farm. The tree business took a huge hit when a fungus began wiping them out, so they had to turn to something else: bromeliads.

He had been trying to find some for his own home and kept discovering that they were very expensive.

“He said that he can do it better and cheaper.”

Her dad didn’t want her to jump into the business with him right away after she moved back into the area, worrying that the fast-changing nature of growing in hurricane ridden Florida would be overwhelming.

“Hard work and determination gets you everywhere. And I believe that with my whole heart. Because of what he taught.”

But she was determined to work at the farm, and now is ready to see her son continue it just as she has.

“When people think about Grant's Farm, I want them to think about my dad…I'll continue it. My son will continue it. Wouldn't it be awesome if my son's kids continue it?”
