Silvia Ferrando: Illustrator
Finding something you enjoy and are talented at can be a challenge. For Illustrator Silvia Ferrando, it took a long time to discover where her passions and talents intersected. It was always story-telling that she wanted to do.
“I like that cartoons can tell a story through images and, even if it took a long time, now I am finally doing what I’ve always wanted to do.”
Silvia recognizes that she created her own limitations by convincing herself, like many of us do, that there were some things she just couldn’t do, like taking care of plants.
Once she determined to find some plants she could take care of, everything else seemed to fall into place for her.
“…plants helped me understand that I can venture outside the comfort of what I think I am capable of…”
It was all about finding the right plants for her and her space. Learning any new skill or hobby requires some patience.
“…even if I didn’t study to become an illustrator, I’ve learned that through constant practice we all can get better at anything we want…the greatest thing that nature teaches you is ‘leave it be’, be patient.”
Now, Silvia is able to combine her love for plants and her love for illustration. Many of her illustrations depict plants and plant care.
Plants are a constant reminder to take it easy.
“Those moments in which I don’t have paper and pencil, or for some reason I can’t express myself creatively, nature reminds me not to get anxious or frustrated about it.”
Silvia sells prints and other products featuring her illustrations through her Etsy shop and on Society6. Visit her website for more information.
