Dyana Hesson: Botanical Artist

Dyana Hesson: Botanical Artist

There is something magical in the way an artist is able to interpret a place and somehow make a beautiful scene even more breathtaking.

Botanical Artist Dyana Hesson strives to make her artwork a window into her mindset of whatever place or subject she may be capturing. One of the most important places for her is just outside her home.

“It’s right on the edge of wilderness which is important to me because in the mornings I can go out and be in nature, kind of reset myself and then come back into the studio and create all day.”

Her own love for nature and plants is deeply rooted, going back to her childhood surrounded by her family’s appreciation for the outdoors.

“We were a very plant-centric type of family and my love for those things just grew out of that environment.”

Dyana describes herself as an adventurer. She is constantly out in the world seeking new inspirations.

“I don’t tire of the things that I find in nature…there’s always more to discover, there’s always more to understand, and the more I explore those things the more appreciation I have for the complexity of life and how precious it is and how healing it is.”

While each of her paintings is unique in its subject matter and the way it is composed, the main message she hopes to convey stretches across all her work.

“God’s creation is really important to me. I feel like there’s a connection there that people are missing these days…”

It’s this idea of reconnecting with the earth, with nature, with plants that drives her to paint in a way that really draws the viewer in.

“If I have compelled you to see things the way I see them, if I have taken you along on my journey, if I have given you a moment of peace…then to me, as an artist, that means I’ve been successful.”
