Kelli Foret Richard: Artist & Gardener

Even before Kelli Foret Richard started gardening, she had lots of positive experiences with plants. She was raised by a horticulturist and grew up on a wholesale nursery, so she is no stranger to the hard work that it takes.

“My dad used to joke that we were so tall because we stepped in fertilizer.”

When Kelli started doing her own gardening, she started looking into organic gardening practices and discovered permaculture.

Through her research into regenerative agriculture, she learned about how many soil scientists believe that harmful farming practices could lead to humans losing the ability to farm in 57 years.

This revelation inspired Kelli to create a series of art called Drawn to Grow. The series consists of 57 pieces that feature differing species, eventually leading to the final piece which has nothing on the page, representing the loss of agriculture.

“The reason that I've created this work is to create conversation about this topic, about regenerative agriculture and how important it is existing as a human species.”
