Jim Charlier: Artist & Designer

Jim Charlier likes to view his garden as an art gallery. His background in design and marketing were big assets when he started helping out with Garden Walk Buffalo.
Before he got into gardening, he didn’t feel like he had a proper creative outlet. All of his designing was just for work, but venturing into garden art changed that.
“The garden brought out the art in me.”
Jim loves to work his creative muscles as much as he can, and one of the best ways to do that is to challenge himself to spend as little as possible on projects he’s working on.
Repurposing is a huge part of Jim’s work. His shed is full of pieces of items he had laying around the house. Everything has a purpose in his art - including plants.
“Plants should have a purpose. I look at them as just another medium to work with.”
A film by Michael Chernoff.
