Phyllis Lobbins: Biologist & Master Gardener

Master Gardener Phyllis Lobbins grew up learning about gardening from her mother and grandmother, so she feels a connection with them now whenever she's working with plants.

“I was able to develop the interest at a very early age, and even now when I'm working in my garden, I feel like I'm close to them spiritually.”

After she got more invested in working in her home garden, she learned about the master gardeners and signed up for classes.

Phyllis enjoys the community that becoming a master gardener has brought her. Influenced by her background in science, she considers her garden her new laboratory. She greatly enjoys teaching others what she's learned from being a "mad scientist" in her own garden.

“Sometimes after you've given the class, [you] may run into some of the same people, and they'll come back and tell you how much what you've taught them helped. I find that very rewarding.”
