Carly Quinn: Tile Artist

For some, desert plants just don’t have the same vibrance and beauty as the lush green plants we come to associate with traditional gardening. But, there is a certain quality that draws people into these plants and gives them the inspiration to create.

One such inspired creator is Tile Artist Carly Quinn of Tucson, Arizona.

Carly finds such beauty just being in the desert and her love of hiking has given her plenty of opportunities to find subjects.

“…looking at all the different plant life that I wasn’t used to became really inspiring to me…”

Creating vibrant artworks on tile is a unique way for Carly to showcase her passion for art, but also a way of capturing the essence of desert life.

“In terms of making the tile, I was really inspired by how I knew I could take these desert plants that were so interesting to me and just make them really come to life.”

The bright red poppies of the desert are the plants that she’s drawn to the most. Viewing them as a group showcases what she describes as this blanket of red, but taking a closer look is what reveals their real beauty.

“When you get up close and you look at them, there’s all these little intricacies in all of the little pieces of the plant…I love that.”
