FIELDTRIP: Moso Bamboo

When one thinks of bamboo, their first thought most likely isn’t Northern Italy. However, just a little over an hour south of Turin, a little slice of evergreen paradise lies in wait. Thomas Froese’s farm - or azienda agricola - houses a species of bamboo known as Moso.

Walking through the towering shoots of bamboo makes one feel tiny in comparison, especially when you’ve walked deeper into the brush, fully immersed in the greenery. The quiet isolation that this private bamboo garden offers is so peaceful that it’s meditative. No bustling city noises to disturb those contemplative moments, just the sounds of the birds singing and the wind whistling through the leaves of the bamboo - and maybe some footsteps as bamboo shoots are harvested.

The Azienda Agricola of Thomas Froese is open for tours only on weekends upon reservation.
