Pam Fox: Photographer

Traveling can broaden our horizons and give us experiences we never would have had otherwise. Photographer Pam Fox was lucky enough to be able to travel to Paris for a year during a teaching sabbatical, and it opened her eyes to brand new avenues to explore in her art.

“I really fell in love with the markets of Paris. They just have these lovely street markets with all kinds of food and flowers, antique markets, flea markets. So I ended up collecting a lot of really cool stuff and flowers.”

One of the things that caught Pam’s eye in Paris was a delicate piece of linen, embellished with flowers. When she got back to her studio, she saw the way that the sheer material caught the light and this became the inspiration for how she backlights her still life photography.

“It was so much more interesting than the thrift store stuff that I had.”

Watching the entire lifecycle of the plants in her garden inspires Pam’s work and also offers her a different creative avenue from her photography.

“I sit in my garden a lot, you know, I just watch the light. I find it very calming, very reflective.”
