Alissa Alfonso: Visual Artist
Artist Alissa Alfonso creates unique soft sculptures of all sorts of flora. Being based in Miami, she has access to the beach where she’s able to gather some of her favorite material to integrate into these pieces - trash.
“That's impactful, that actually people will see it and make the connection that like this was garbage…and now it's something beautiful.”
Alissa gets inspiration from the environment around her and strives to capture it in a way that does not ignore the ways in which that environment is changing.
“A lot of times I replicate nature the way I enjoy seeing them…some of my work I depict as being faded because like our environments and what climate change is doing to our, you know, our environment, it's fading.”
Art is a great way to make people think about their connections to nature, and Alissa finds it rewarding to help strengthen that bond.
“When I was young, I was creating totally different artwork, but I was creating it more for myself. And now I feel like I'm creating artwork for the connections and for people to make connections to nature.”
