Soundings: Where Art & Gardening Meet

Art and gardening have many things in common, but one of the most important is the way that they can bring communities together.

Brendan and Kelly embraced community building in full force when they were working on their art installation, Soundings. The project seeks to showcase green roofs, as well as form connections through people sharing nature sounds and photos from different places in a digital archive.

With the green roof, they want to give people a tangible view as to how this type of gardening can have a huge benefit on the region. Not only are they lovely green spaces, but they also aid in absorbing rainfall to help with flooding prevention.

“I think that's one of the things that we were trying to do with the project, is to make something that was beautiful and that was engaging and that felt like a place you wanted to be.”

Although the project was started by the duo, they couldn’t have completed it without the help of the community. Gardening brings people together, and the combined effort of those involved will hopefully inspire others to create their own green roof spaces.
