Deborah Martin: Visual Artist

As an artist, Deborah Martin is focused on finding beauty in the world around her - and what’s more beautiful than plants? 

She strives to showcase plants in a way that makes people appreciate the world around them. 

“I hope that people look at my artwork and see the beauty in nature and then maybe looking deeper to what's going on with our environment…”

Deborah spent a lot of her childhood in her aunt’s gardens in Cape Cod. She developed a love for plants as she explored the ferns and peonies while she bonded with her aunt. 

Her love for art started young as well. A class project that had her painting a mural of hibernating bears sparked a great interest in painting all things nature. 

“My teacher said, ‘Debbie, you're an artist.’ And I thought, ‘Hm, maybe I am.’ So I knew in the third grade that I was going to be an artist.”

When Deborah moved to Naples, she decided she was going to make her own tropical paradise in her backyard. It was a lot of hard work learning about plants, but she was able to create a space she’s immensely proud of. 

“I created my garden very much how I work on my artwork.”
