Lotus McElfish: Contemporary Botanical Artist

When Lotus McElfish hit a crossroad in her career path, she took the one paved with flowers. After years of working as an event coordinator, she decided that she no longer wanted to work for anybody else.
She was struck with inspiration for the next phase of her life while on a road trip with her husband.
“I wanted to get back into my art, which I had done pretty much all my life, but really hadn't had much time for it. And I just blurted out, ‘I want to be a botanical artist.’”
Lotus dedicated a whole year to painting endangered plants. She specifically chose them so that her paintings could also be an avenue to educate people on the species.
“A lot of times people say,’But what about if the plant disappears?’ But if that plant, one plant disappears, it's like a network that upsets a certain balance in the earth.”
