Bartholomew Motes: Rare Plant and Orchid Festival Organizer

Are you a plant lover? Or do you accompany your plant lover to all of their floral endeavors?

Bartholomew Motes and his wife always ask these questions to those that they see at the orchid and rare plant festivals that they organize. They’ve realized that sometimes it’s hard for people to truly understand the excitement that their loved ones get from plants, so they hope that creating these events helps spread the passion.

“We hope to show them that there is something really incredible that they can be part of and is exciting and hopefully contagious about that.”

Bartholomew has always been around plants, but it took a while for him to fully appreciate them the way he does now. Because his family was in the plant business, as a child he mostly saw them as chores. But, when his father brought him on a trip to Indonesia, all of that shifted.

“I got to see all this flora that was completely new to me. And we had this experience of discovering new things together. When I came home from that trip, I realized that I wanted more of that in my life, not less.”
