Valeria Nuyanzina: Artist

Valeria Nuyanzina is a multimedia artist who works with everything from ceramics to watercolor.

She spent a lot of time in her childhood exploring forests in Russia, learning about the fauna and picking berries. People around her showed a unique type of respect for nature that she has brought with her through her life.

“There's this dialog in a way that you enter a forest or a field, and you can ask to show you beautiful flowers, or you can ask the forest for help to guide you home.”

Valeria has lived in many places, and one of the ways that she likes to connect with these different countries is to learn about the local fauna.

“I really like to observe the landscape where I'm living and look at local native plants and also stories and folklore around them.”

Through her art, Valeria hopes to translate the feelings of beauty and connection to nature that she experiences when she looks at plants.

“I think that we resonate with and it helps us connect to the seasons and with places that we call home.”
