Sudhir "Tony" D'Souza: Physician & Gardener

Being able to find peace among the chaos of a stressful job is essential, and Sudhir “Tony” D’Souza has found that in his garden. He works as a pediatrician and finds himself managing a lot of mental health problems with his patients. As much as he values his work, it’s draining.

In order to balance his work and his own mental health, Tony has to clear his head so that he’s ready to help the next child.

“So when I leave my office, I walk off the pain. I dig a garden because all the thoughts in that moment I can lose for a few minutes.”

Tony wants every inch of his yard covered in plants, even though his wife doesn’t fully understand the obsession. Through his gardening journey, he’s learned that there are endless subtleties to such a simple hobby. The learning process is part of what he loves most – even the mistakes.

“In the same way they call it medical practice for a reason. You have to understand how to get better.”
