FIELDTRIP: Botanical Gardens of Bogotá
In the heart of Colombia lies the Bogotá Botanical Garden, also known as the José Celestino Mutis botanical garden. This is Colombia’s biggest botanical garden, established in 1955 in honor of botanist and astronomer José Celestino.
The garden focuses on conservation and research, collaborating with many universities and hosting programs for children to learn about plants. With numerous greenhouses and special collections, the gardens showcase the unique biodiversity of Colombia and provide a unique opportunity to appreciate local endangered plant species.
