Jeremy Schmidt: Landscape Designer
Every landscape is different and when it comes to designing a space, every designer has a unique perspective on how to deal with the land.
Landscape designer Jeremy Schmidt likes to create something special in the landscapes and gardens he designs.
“I don’t think it’s as common as it should be for many designers to think outside the box.”
What makes his designs so different is the way he uses the land and soil that’s already in the garden. He can often be found in the garden digging holes to bring out the natural soil and piling it to create more height for the plants.
Being outside has always been a part of Jeremy’s life.
“I’ve always been digging in the dirt…that’s how I’m wired.”
He credits his dad with being his main inspiration as he always made time to take Jeremy fishing.
“My dad taught me a great deal about the outdoors and so it sort of developed over time…”
Jeremy is currently the supervisor of grounds and research at Plant Delights Nursery in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has worked at the nursery for more than 12 years and his unique design aesthetic seems to fit well with owner Tony Avent’s exotic plant collection.
For more information about Jeremy, visit the Plant Delights Nursery website. He leads some workshops and demonstrations at the nursery, so be sure to check the schedule.
