Valerie Fowler: Nature Artist

There’s something powerful in the way plants grow in nature. It can be a humbling experience to be in the presence of trees that are hundreds of years old.

Inspired by her own experiences in nature, Valerie Fowler’s artworks show the beauty, fragility, and wonder of the environment around us.

“My art, it’s about my ideas and how I relate to the world and how I see things.”

The Austin-based artist is inspired by the natural order of plants growing from seed and she sees it as a metaphor for the human lifespan.

Every choice she makes, from the subject to which paints she uses is meant to lead people to her perspective on the beauty and power of plants.

“I’m always thinking about seducing a viewer to see how I see and I want to lead people with my color choices and make the canvas pop…”

What’s particularly unique about Valerie’s art is that often she doesn’t take time to sketch out exactly what she wants the final piece to look like.

“I like to work from just ideas in my head and I like to let the canvas and the images…lead me.”

By letting the canvas speak to her, she’s able to have a greater connection with the final product.
