Caroline Wright: Artist

Texas native Caroline Wright has been a full-time artist for over a decade now. Her creations are heavily influenced by flowers, drawing inspiration from their colors and shapes rather than depicting them directly in order to evoke the feelings of the natural world.

“I'm drawn to using floral forms and shapes - just for the way that flowers represent the life cycle so beautifully of just living, blooming, dying. But I have always appreciated just how beautiful they look.”

Watching Caroline work is a treat, as she allows her paintings to take up more space in the room than she does, letting the art overtake her and guide her rather than her being in full control.

“The piece I'm working on right now is enormous. It takes up my whole studio floor. I love working that size because... I can't in a way. I can't take in the whole space at once. So while I'm painting, I get lost in what I'm doing.”

When she’s not working, Caroline turns to nature to relax and unwind, giving her an opportunity to meditate on the day.

“The garden for me is in a lot of ways, like an anti-anxiety medication. I feel like being in the garden just brings me back down to Earth - very literally - and gives me a sense of peace and calm.”

Emotions are a big part of Caroline’s art, and she hopes that this shines through to viewers and helps them fully feel and connect with her.

“My hope is always that whatever I'm sharing is something that is connecting to other people, and they're seeing maybe some aspects of their own story of things that they've been thinking about or struggling with.”
