Aletha SaintRomain: Artist
Aletha SaintRomain has always been an avid artist, an interest sparked by her grandparents when she was young. She’s explored many mediums; but, for the last decade, botanical illustration has been her true passion.
“I feel like in our culture we've gotten too far away from feeling as if we're part of the natural world…we feel as if we're separate from it, when really we are a part of it.”
One of Aletha’s favorite parts about working with plants is the ephemeral nature of them.
“It reminds me to enjoy and appreciate what's in front of me in the moment. Because a plant as beautiful as it is, it's not going to last.”
Illustrating plants evokes the same gratifying feeling that Aletha gets from watching her garden prosper, making that satisfaction of watching plants flourish last even longer.
“I heard a saying one time that the best thing for a garden is the footsteps of the gardener…It's almost like a magical thing to see that you're doing all the things that this plant needs and it prospers.”
