Jedda Wong: Visual Artist
Sometimes, it’s not until later in life that we find our true passions. Although she never considered pursuing art when she was getting her degree, Jedda Wong started taking art classes at a local community college and a botanical garden and fell in love.
“I thought, ‘This is my niche.’ And I also joined a group called the Tropical Botanic Artists and that was lovely. Like-minded people who enjoyed painting plants.”
On the other hand, Jedda started getting interested in plants fairly early in her childhood. A project for school required her to press and label plants, and all of the “fanciful” names drew her in.
“That gave me a hint as to the importance or or the magic that could be found in these plants.”
The goal of Jedda’s artwork is to allow people the opportunity to see plants that they might never have known about otherwise. She wants to open that world for them so that they may explore it later themselves.
“Once they've seen my painting, I want them to go away with a feeling of love and interest for the plant that I have shown.”
