Crazy Plant Bae

New Orleans is known for being the birthplace of jazz and as a melting pot of many incredible cultures. The city also has a thriving plant scene which shows up in plant shops, gardens, and in a thriving community of plant enthusiasts.

One of NOLA’s most prolific plant spots is Crazy Plant Bae, located in the historic Treme neighborhood.

Teresa Thomas and her family wanted to create a place that would capture the spirit of the community and give back to it as well.

“We wanted to honor that and bring black businesses back to Treme, while also making plants accessible to the community.”

Through taking care of her plants, Teresa has learned lessons not only about them, but herself as well. They help her acknowledge her own needs, reminding her of the simplest necessities, like keeping hydrated, that get pushed aside sometimes.

“What you put into your plants is what you get out of them so I can always tell when I’m not taking enough time for myself based on what my collection looks like.”
