The Magnolia Company

Love for plants is something that can be passed down through generations. Julie Roth’s grandmother started shipping ferns from the little Florida town of Barberville all the way back in the 1930s. Her family latched onto the business as well, and the rest was history.

Julie and her husband Matt now run The Magnolia Company out of Barberville. Through growing up on the farm, she was motivated from a very young age to continue the family legacy.

“I think that just really taught me something about just being committed and knowing…this farm was a gift from God.”

A few years ago, before Julie’s father passed, his family gathered with him on the farm to listen to him recount all the memories of working on the land. At that moment, little spindles that looked like thousands of dandelions fell from the trees like snow.

Julie and Matt both believe that moment was a message from God, a recognition that her father’s hard work had helped his family and other people.

“It was like the trees were giving back to my father that they had seen all of his struggles and his successes. And without a doubt, that was just the most remarkable experience to be there.”

Even though none of their children currently work on the farm, Julie and Matt know that they are proud of their family’s business.

“I think the farm and these stories really hold a special place in their heart.”
