Shelley Fones: The Gardening Angel

The Gardening Angel, Shelley Fones found a love in the garden from her childhood, “It all started at my grandmother’s…she would take cuttings and line the window with little cups of water and they would turn into little plants.” This memory stayed with Shelley and eventually helped her through some tough experiences. 

After losing her husband at a young age and having to raise three children alone, Shelley says, “I needed a divine intervention and the lord helped me,” which led her to the garden where she found solace and eventually a prosperous career. She adopted the name the Gardening Angel but claims she is “not an angel;” however, anyone can sense the angelic persona after speaking with Shelley. 

Social distancing is the new norm as we work through a global pandemic and the “safest place to be is in your yard…in your garden,” says Shelley. As people are sheltering in place, Shelley keeps busy helping her clients enjoy the natural world. She helps a lot of older woman and men that can no longer tend to the garden to maintain an outdoor paradise they can enjoy.
