Park's Bonsai
For the uninitiated, bonsai might seem to be just small trees, but there’s a lot more to it than that. Bonsai is an art form and mastery of it takes years of study and practice.
Park’s Bonsai is a small piece of Korean agriculture situated amongst the traditional agricultural farmlands of Suffolk.
Young Park, the owner of Park’s Bonsai, learned the art from his great great grandfather and at an early age he learned that creating these artworks was a challenge.
“I could try to follow him and make a copy, but I couldn’t make it.”
Growing up, he used to think that bonsai was just about cutting branches here and there, but eventually he came to understand that once a cut is made it could take weeks or even months to grow back.
“You have to cut carefully and be patient.”
Young points out that a lot of people who practice bonsai have their preferences of style, such as Japanese versus Korean. He says people should create their own style. For him, it’s all about the plants.
“I learn from nature.”
