Tucson Botanical Gardens

If you’ve never been to the desert, you might have images of vast expanses of empty, sand-covered landscape. You might also be envisioning a respite in the middle of that nothingness, an oasis of green to satisfy the weary traveler.

The bustling city of Tucson, Arizona, is likely not the image that comes to mind when thinking of the desert, but it is very much part of the desert scene. Much like other cities in the state, it also boasts its own oasis.

The Tucson Botanical Gardens is unique in its smaller size and that rather than being a large sprawling landscape of plants, it is designed as eighteen “pocket gardens”, each with its own theme.

Adam Farrell-Wortman, the Horticulture Manager of the Garden says despite the small space, there is a lot to see.

“We are sitting on 5.5 acres, but we utilize the space really efficiently.”

Matt Adamson, the Director of Marketing & Communications, enjoys walking through the gardens and truly sees the space for what it is, a desert oasis.

“It’s a respite, it’s an island of peace and beauty in the heart of a bustling city.”
