FIELDTRIP: Sweethaven Lavender Farm
The name Williamsburg, Virginia, often conjures thoughts of colonially-dressed actors, authentic historic activities, and maybe even a theme park or two. But, there is more to the city than all of these things if you’re willing to look for it.
Williamsburg is also home to Sweethaven Lavender Farm, a sprawling expanse of beautiful, fragrant lavender. Walking into the space fills all the senses. First, you’re hit with the sight of purple hues swaying gently in the breeze. As you walk through the rows, the sweet smell tickles your nose and you hear the low hum of the bees finding nectar amidst the petals. When the farm is open, stop by the shop to pick up a container of lavender tea, which you can also order online as well as other delicious and fragrant gifts.
Sweethaven Lavender Farm is seasonal, so visit their website or Instagram for openings, scheduled visits, and events.
Their online shop is always open.
This film is by Terra Turner & Laura Christian.
If you’re looking for more plant inspiration while you’re in the area, visit the Williamsburg Botanical Garden. It’s a beautiful public garden area featuring examples of native plants, lush floral arbors, and demonstration gardens. They are open to the public from 7 AM to 8:30 PM every day of the week.
