Jeffrey Allis: Biophilic Designer

Jeffrey Allis loves working his job as a biophilic designer. He’s seen the positive effect that creating green spaces for people has had, even going so far as to consider the spaces he makes sacred.

“This is the right path and I want to stay on that path. It's very intrinsically rewarding, not monetary, but intrinsically. You know that you've affected somebody's life in a positive way.”

He grew up having tons of space to make his own garden at just 13 years old. He spent his childhood in nature: camping, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Even when he wasn’t out in nature himself, he was reading about it.

“I spent most of my time reading Thoreau and Whitman and Emerson and studying Fibonacci. Just of how these people observe our nature. And they help me observe nature better.”

One of the most touching stories that Jeffrey has ever come across was a 97 year-old woman who asked him if he could create a beautiful space for her to admire before she passed. This interaction really solidified Jeffrey’s belief that plants and people have a special connection.

“It's authentic and people feel it, so it's real. Who doesn't want something that's real and authentic and wholesome and positive?”
