Katie Vance: Landscape Designer and Artist

Designer Katie Vance feels a true connection with her plants. When she’s feeling her best, that’s when her plants look their best.

“I will joke to myself and my friends that the way my plants look and how they’re doing is directly reflective of my mental space at the time.”

Katie’s father was a landscape designer, so she grew up around a lot of plants. Her favorite childhood memories were being able to see beautiful varieties of plants at all the nurseries she would visit.

When her mother died, the loss took a heavy toll on Katie. She felt lost and uninspired for a few years. Eventually, she got jobs working at a local garden center and a botanical garden, and working with plants again helped her healing process.

Since then, she’s been working for six years as a landscape designer, just like her father.

“Putting myself into caring for something else, creating something else…I think it really brought  me out of a dark time because it allowed me to find joy again.”
