Anna Rolskaya: Abstract Artist

When she first started painting, Anna wanted to create more “traditional” abstract pieces that had a lot of hard shapes and edges. While she could paint those, she didn’t feel a strong connection to them. This led her to leaning into a looser style that is seen in her work today. 

“This is how I start creating feminine and very intuitive floral abstracts because those shapes are very natural to my body.”

Back in her hometown of Moscow, Anna was raised in the countryside where she had forests and flowers to explore. Being raised in this environment gave her an appreciation for plants early that would inspire so much of her work.

“I would spend there all the time with [my parents], exploring all the wild flowers and roses. I don't know all the names, but yeah, all the possible shapes and colors.”

Living in Portugal has given her the relaxing space that has allowed her to tap into all those childhood memories and fully flourish into the artist she is now.

“I believe all these natural shapes and colors, they were already in my memory…but I just didn't have access to them. I needed more space and opportunity to look inside of me and Portugal…help me to relax and kind of find the way.”
